"Society calls for Safety for the Elderly"
As the number of crimes against the elderly continues to
increase every year, protection for the health and safety of this
vulnerable sector of the community has become a major concern.
By the year 2011 it is predicted that the number of people over a
pensionable age will have increased from 10.7million to 11.5 million. It
is evident that the population is steadily ageing and as newspaper
headlines continue to support alarming stories of the elderly being
attacked in their homes, there is clearly a need to protect them.
During the recent riots in Lancashire, there were many incidents reported
of elderly people living in fear in their homes whilst rioting broke out
on the streets. There were even reports of people being attacked in their
homes, who were hospitalised as a consequence.
"The
personal alarm system has given my husband and myself tremendous peace of
mind, knowing that that we can get help at the touch of a button in an
emergency. It also gives one of us the freedom to go out secure in the
knowledge that the other is safe and well looked after at all times. The
alarm has given us a true sense of security day and night and allowed us
to maintain our independence, which is essential to us"
Mr and Mrs Dunkerley - Oldham
Lancashire
Emergency response monitoring has been available through
a number of organisations for many years, they recognise the importance of
providing what they now class as a vital service in this growing sector.
An emergency personal alarm system, allows older, disabled and
recovering people to maintain their independent lifestyle in their own
homes, safe in the knowledge that they can summon help whenever it is
needed. This provides a real sense of reassurance and peace of mind, not
only for the individual, but also their relatives and friends who get
comfort from knowing that their loved ones are not isolated or at high risk
if they are not around.
An immediate response from an operator is provide 24
hour a day, 365 days per year by simply pressing a button on either, a
watch strap or pendant from the house or garden. Eldercare's team assess
the nature of the emergency and call out the nominated contacts, emergency
services, mobile warden or family.
"As the size of the ageing
sector of our population continues to grow, there becomes an even stronger
case for the need for services such as those offered by an emergency
personal alarm system"
said Sue Scott, Eldercare's Personal Car Manager. " People quite
rightly fiercely guard their independence nowadays and our service offers
genuine peace of mind, confidence, safety and security for individuals and
their families. We work very closely with Local Authorities, Housing Associations
and private individuals throughout the UK. We were one of the first social
alarm monitoring centres to be granted the British Standard and we
currently hold BS5979,BSEN50134 and ISO 9002"
"I could
not do without my personal alarm as it allows me complete peace of mind at
all times - day or night. At the age of 85 it gives me my independence and
at the same the security of knowing that at the touch of a button I can
contact my friends, emergency services or even a doctor - I call it my
multi-help button, it is totally invaluable"
Mr R Hargraves - Altincham
Cheshire
A long list of satisfied customers
is testimony to the efficiency and security that this kind of service has
to offer. On the security aspect of the service, if an intruder is heard
in the house or garden, the response centre will immediately contact the
police. Customers feel that they are never alone.
